About Shelley

About Me

I am a therapist who practices in midtown Sacramento.  I work with individuals, couples, and children and am qualified to treat a broad range of problems including:  anxiety, depression, trauma, grief/loss, LGBTQ issues, and relationship difficulties.  I work well with clients from diverse backgrounds and have experience in working with clients who are dealing with oppression and/or discrimination.  My goal as a therapist is to help people improve their lives and to build loving, supportive, and fulfilling relationships. If you are feeling overwhelmed or anxious, concerned about a relationship, or traumatized by an experience in your life, I would welcome the opportunity to work with you to help you create a better future.

Education and Training

I earned my Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from the

Wright Institute in Berkeley, CA, an American Psychological Association accredited program.  I did my clinical trainings at the Effort, a community mental health center, St. John’s Shelter for Women and Children, Sage Anxiety Treatment Center, and in private practice under Dr. Gay Teurman.

I am currently employed as a clinician in private practice at Vantage Point Center for Psychotherapy.  I also co-facilitate a weekly Adult Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Support Group with Dr. Katie Polsky at Vantage Point Center for Psychotherapy.

Specialty Areas

Although I consider myself a generalist, my specialties are:

  • Anxiety Issues (OCD - Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder,
Panic Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Social Anxiety Disorder, Phobias)
  • Relationship and intimacy issues
  • GLBTQ Issues (coming out, relationship issues, gender identity)

Theorectical Approaches

My approaches to counseling and therapy vary with the client, the presenting issues at hand, and our mutual goals for treatment.  I have an integrative orientation, drawing on psychodynamic, client-centered, cognitive-behavioral, relational, and mindfulness-oriented therapies.
